The Knights of Our Lady Classical Scholars Program utilizes the cohesive, content-rich curriculum of The Chesterton Schools Network. A broad exposure to many different disciplines helps students expand their interests and uncover hidden talents. Each year builds on the previous so that by the end of senior year our students are articulate, clear-thinking, well-rounded, and very importantly, joyful individuals.
Classical education can be described as the cultivation of wisdom and virtue through meditation on the good, the true, and the beautiful. Our classical curriculum combines a broad, liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on the development of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty. Students read Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Virgil, Euclid, Dante, Cervantes, Chaucer, Shakespeare, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas Aquinas, Dostoyevsky, and G.K.Chesterton. Students study the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. History, literature, philosophy, and theology are braided together. The sciences and the humanities are also intimately connected, so that the logic of math is seen in philosophy, and God's handiwork is seen in the sciences. Faith and reason meet in every class. Equal emphasis is given to the arts so that every student learns to draw and paint, sing in the choir, act on the stage, give speeches, and engage in debate. Each year builds upon the previous, so that by the end of senior year, we have articulate, clear-thinking, well-rounded, and very importantly, joyful human beings.
We teach the classics of Western thought from physics to philosophy, and the interrelationship of the great ideas; teaching students not merely what to think but how to think.
We help students grow in the four cardinal virtues of prudence, temperance, fortitude and justice, which we believe are the foundation of leadership.
Our students come to understand and embrace the truth of why they exist: to know God, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world and be happy with Him forever in the next.
